Kitchen Cabinet Organization Tips
Have you ever opened a cabinet door for a Bundt pan and had a mixing bowl fall out and smash your toes? Or maybe you’ve reached for a wine glass only to have a coffee mug crack you on the head? Regardless of whether your kitchen is sprawling or cramped, there never seems to be enough cabinet space to hold everything.
You could swear off cooking or eating at home and toss out all your dishes, baking ingredients and cookware. But that’s not really a practical approach. The better way to make the most out of limited cabinet space is to set aside some time to remove serious kitchen clutter catchers and start organizing for your kitchen.
If you’re ready to maximize the square footage of your kitchen cabinets, then we’ve got five tips for organizing your pantry that we think you’ll like.
1. Go Container Crazy
One excellent means of organizing your kitchen cabinets is to use containers to free up space. For example, cleaning products that you keep under the sink can be easily organized using a cleaning caddy, bucket or tub. Likewise, cooking and baking ingredients can be categorized and contained using baskets with cooking oils, sprays and vinegars in one and different types of flours in another.2. Use All Your Space
When organizing your kitchen cabinets, you want to make sure you’re not guilty of squandering space. Hang measuring cups, spatulas or serving spoons on the inside of cabinet doors so you can locate them easily and free precious real estate in your kitchen drawers. And while you’re hanging things, don’t forget to take advantage of the undersides of cabinet shelves. Install a few small hooks and you can take your coffee mug storage to a higher level—literally. If that doesn’t work for you, you can also hang coffee cups or even wine glasses from the bottoms of your kitchen cabinets. Additionally, it’s a great place to keep your oven mitts and pot holders.
3. Rack 'em and Shelve 'em
You can easily up your space and kitchen cupboard organization game by investing in some shelves to go inside of your cabinets. Tiered shelves are great for putting spice jars in order. They can also be used to keep your glassware in line.At the same time, racks can be used to store mugs over plates or measuring cups over mixing bowls. If you really want to think outside the box while organizing your pantry, attach a plastic magazine rack to the inside of a cupboard door to hold boxes of parchment paper, foil and plastic wrap or pot and pan lids.
4. Set Up Kitchen "Zones"
Save yourself time—and potential messes—by organizing your pantry and kitchen using zones. For example, try to keep all of your baking pans, mixing bowls and measuring cups under the counter that you’ll use as your workspace. You may even want to think about hanging your measuring spoons from that same cabinet door.Similarly, keep spices, sauces and cooking oils in the cabinet nearest to the stove. The idea is to get everything as close as possible to the part of the kitchen where you’ll be using it. That way, your space is more efficient and you’re less likely to make a mess.
5. Line Your Shelves
One of the benefits of kitchen organization is that it helps keep the room tidy and clean. However, even in the most organized of pantries there are bound to be messes and spills. Make cleaning up just a bit easier by using shelf paper or liner in the bottoms of your cabinets. That way, when you knock that open bottle of honey over you can easily wipe down the liner with some soapy water and a microfiber cloth.Face it; organizing your pantry is no small feat. But in the long run, the time and messes you’ll save are well worth scheduling a few hours to take on the task.
