How To Use The Right Tools

Preparing for a big spring clean? Before you even think of starting, you need to make a cleaning supplies list and check it twice.

But what cleaning supplies do you need to clean your home? Get ready to find out.

Note: You can use distilled white vinegar to clean something in every room of the house. However, vinegar and stone surfaces do not play well together. Keep this in mind as you work so you can make sure the two don’t make contact.

Bathroom cleaning supplies list

  • Distilled white vinegar
  • A spray bottle
  • Microfiber cloths
  • A plastic sandwich bag and a rubber band
  • An old toothbrush
  • Grout cleaner
  • Toilet cleaner and brush
Use the toilet cleaner and brush to make that porcelain sparkle. Next, combine one-fourth cup vinegar with three-fourths cup hot water in your spray bottle. You can use this solution to clean everything from your shower door to your bathroom floor. (Unless it’s stone!) Just let the mixture sit before wiping it clean with a microfiber cloth. Use the toothbrush to help the grout cleaner work its magic. Then mix one part vinegar to one part water in the plastic bag and fasten that around your showerhead with the rubber band. Leave it to sit overnight, and bid the hard water stains clogging your showerhead adieu in the morning.

  • Multiple microfiber cloths
  • A bucket
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • An extendable microfiber duster or ceiling fan cleaner
  • Vacuum cleaner with attachments
  • Distilled white vinegar

Start by using your microfiber duster or cleaner to bust the dust and cobwebs in high areas. Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid with 2 quarts of water for a baseboard-cleaning solution that you’ll apply with a microfiber cloth. You’ll use another microfiber cloth to wipe down knickknacks and surface areas, and yet another to shine your windows using a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water mixed in the spray bottle. The vacuum cleaner and attachments are for hoovering your furniture, window treatments and floor as you make your way out of your now clean bedroom.

The type of countertop cleaner you’ll use will depend on what your counters are made of. Read your manufacturer’s instructions first, so you don’t void your warranty. Then make the appropriate cleaner, spritz it on your counters and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. You can use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe off the rest of your surfaces and appliances. All you need is water here. The baking soda is for the bottom of your trash can after it’s been washed and dried. Mix a little more dishwashing liquid with water in your bucket and you’ve got a DIY floor cleaner to apply with your microfiber mop. Just make sure you don’t let water pool and sit on hardwood or laminate surfaces unless you’re in the market for new flooring.

Here again you’ll use the extendable cleaner to swipe dust and cobwebs from hard-to-reach places. Afterwards, you can move your furniture away from walls and clean your baseboards using microfiber cloths and a solution of 2 quarts warm water mixed with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. (Don’t put the furniture back yet.) Mix one part vinegar to one part water in a spray bottle and mist your windows with that combination. Wipe it off with a microfiber cloth to see a streak-free shine on glass surfaces. Next you’ll vacuum your furniture and window treatments with the upholstery attachment. Once you’re done, snap off the attachment and clean those floors. Finally, move the furniture back to its original place and vacuum any areas you missed.
